Take care of your health without disrupting your routine.

With Irish Clinic you can take care of your health without disrupting your routine.

Learn more about your weight loss process

A comprehensive evaluation is required before our primary care physicians may recommend weight reduction medication or other treatments.  Keep in mind that any weight reduction medication our doctors prescribe must be used with other measures, such as a healthier diet, if you want to see any results.

If you're between the ages of 18 and 75 and have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above, your primary care physician may recommend an injectable weight reduction drug.  Injections are often not recommended for patients with a body mass index (BMI) below 30, unless a preexisting problem linked to weight is present.  Then, a note from your primary care physician confirming the diagnosis is required.

If your body mass index (BMI) is less than 30, your primary care physician may prescribe an oral medicine to aid with weight reduction.  During your appointment for weight control, we may talk about this. Reaching weight reduction objectives: We will establish weight loss goals for you if medication is suggested.  For therapy to continue, it is critical to achieve these objectives.  Doctors may choose to discontinue therapy if this does not happen.

Frequently asked questions

How long till my appointment?

Our weight management service is available to adults aged 18-75 years old in the following cases:

(i) If you have a BMI of over 30 -  in this case, we will prescribe injectable medication.

(ii) If you have a  BMI of between 27 and 30, with at least one weight-related condition (pre-diabetes, T2DM, hypertension, dyslipidaemia or obstructive sleep apnoea) - in this case, we will require a letter from your GP stating that you have been previously diagnosed with a weight-related condition, in order to prescribe you injectable medication.

(iii) If you have a  BMI of between 27 and 30, without a weight-related condition - in this case we will offer oral medication.

If you're unsure, calculate your BMI here.

Please note: the pharmacist will check your weight and height and measure your waist in the pharmacy. If your BMI is significantly different to the one you stated in the questionnaire, you will be referred back to the HealthHero GP team and your medication may not be dispensed.

Medications used to control weight: how do they work?

Our weight management medications can include injections with a GLP-1 inhibitor. You naturally secrete GLP-1 after you eat – but the GLP-1 inhibitor suppresses your appetite so you don't feel as hungry. It can help with weight loss when combined with dietary and lifestyle changes.

How do I start weight management treatment?

How can I begin therapy for my weight?

First, you'll need to complete an initial assessment which includes an online questionnaire and weight management consultation. One of our GPs will call to give advice and discuss next steps. They'll go through any necessary medications with you and tell you about the most suitable treatment options.
